London J.
"Hearts of Three" by a well-known American writer Jack London (1876—1916) is a model of an adventure novel. Its plot is based on the adventures of a young New York millionaire, Francis Morgan, his friend and distant relative Henry and charming Leoncia — all of them are united by the search of Maya's treasures and romantic love. Romeo and Juliet = Ромео і Джульєтта (мг) (English Library)
Shakespeare W.
"Romeo and Juliet" is a romantic and at the same time tragic play by the classic of the world literature William Shakespeare (1564—1616). An ancient legend about the young lovers who belong to hostile families forms the basis of the tragedy and has not lost its actuality for centuries already. Love raises Romeo and Juliet over the absurdity of enmity which they got by right of inheritance, ennobles them, changes their souls and, finally, reconciles two families. But the finale of the play is tragic. The hostilities and regrettable coincidence entail the death of the lovers. This death is a defiant challenge to the society which, behind the hatred and strife, is unable to see the grandeur of love.

The Gentle Grafter = Шляхетний шахрай. (American Library)
Henry O.
"The Gentle Grafter" is one of the best collections of the stories by the well-known American writer O. Henry (1862—1910). The stories are united by the through characters — companions Jeff Peters and Andy Tucker. Both of them earn their living by small-time roguery, exploiting such human vices as meanness, cupidity, credulity, foolishness and vanity. The wonder of it is that the main heroes are also endowed with some positive features: the devotion to friendship, the ability to love, the observation of a peculiar code of honor. Sometimes they take the bait of the more crafty "colleagues" which endows the collection with special color. The stories are well written, filled with irony, humor, and hints; they thrill the reader and arouse bright feelings.

Shakespeare W.
The tragedy "Hamlet, Prince of Denmark" by William Shakespeare (1564—1616) is one of the best-known dramatic works of world literature. Even among Shakespeare's masterpieces, "Hamlet" stands out for its exquisite depth, the intricacy of the contents and problems. The plot of the tragedy goes back to the ancient Scandinavian saga about vendetta. But in the image of Hamlet, before us there arises not an ordinary personage-revenger but a thinker, a new human being who tries to comprehend his time, his relations with his friends and enemies; and, as a result, he arrives at a conclusion that the world is imperfect, mercenary, and treacherous; and that there is no harmony in it which his soul is craving for.
